Hi everyone,
You might not know me (yet), but I'll be teaching at Tribal Fest 8 and I just wanted to introduce myself! I have been bellydancing since 1989, but the obsession really started to take hold in the late 90s, when I first saw Tribal! (FCBD).
Having conducted a lot of research, I found that Kajira's style and dance ethics suited me well, so I trained with her whenever I could and I am proud to say that she is my 'Tribal mentor'.
Anyway, I just wanted to elaborate on my class titles and, especially, the use of veils in Tribal (ATS) and Fusion.
My class entitled 'goffick, innit' will be a lot of fun, since I will be teaching my own step combinations and will be injecting some humour!
With regards to my 'Wings of Dracula', these were specifically made for me and are unique - the veils were hand dyed by Akai'i Silk and the 'sticks' hand carved by friends of mine. Anyway, you do NOT need wings to be able to take part in this class; simply bring a couple of similar sized and shaped veils (square, silk veils work best, but others are fine, too) and tie them together - either by knotting or carefully pinning them.
We will start with the basic technique and then move onto combos. Once again, if you do not feel you will use wings, you will be able to use the step combinations for veil work, which, I feel is very much under-rated in Tribal style.
The colours, variety of and the shapes you can draw with the veil/wings will enhance your performance and add an element of surprise. It goes without saying, however, that technique is essential and one cannot 'just waft' one's props around without skill.
If you do have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me: heike.humphreys@mac.com; I will be leaving for SF on May 9th.
I look forward to meeting you at TF - please come and say 'Hi'.
