Hmmm
Unmata could kick anyone's arse with improv, they're the dogs bollocks as far as I'm concerned and to me they're one of the best things about the whole dvd and I'm sure alot of others would agree. Mira Betz's piece was good along with Kami's but there were a few pieces that didn't really float my boat but then I'm not really a big fan of "gothic" bellydance in general. Ariellah might be able to persuade me a little though... - Phoebe , posted 08/24/07

"Bellydance Underworld"
I got this at Tribal Throwdown and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Although I've warmed up to Gothic Bellydance, this one is something I think even normal people would love. - Erica , posted 08/13/07

Bellydance Underworld v Gothic Bellydance
I must admit, I enjoyed the Bellydance Underworld more than the Gothic Bellydance dvd - I found some of the performances on the latter rather pretentious!

Anyway, what can I say - the performances that I found most inspiring were Ariellah (Black), Sashi (Crushed), Kami Liddle (Cybele) and Tempest (Doomsday Serenade). All of them, apart from Kami's were gothic bellydance pieces - dark, intriguing, interesting and sometimes more than a bit 'spooky'; certainly individual! Kami's piece was, as always, fantastic! However, the most amazing piece for me was Ultra Gypsy's 'Mazamir'! I loved the fusion of Egyptian Style (some of the gestures and moves really reminded me of some of those used by famous Egyptian stars and the flair of a cairo nightclub) and Tribal - really fantastic! I can't wait for them to come over to the UK next March!

The Nekyia (Slinky) performed a fire/burlesque ? number - I must admit, I thought there was much prancing and not much dancing and I thought the showmanship was lacking, too...I also didn't like Frederique's costume (I know!) - but it put me off the whole dance...however, I am keeping an open mind and look forward to seeing her perform at the International Bellydance Congress.

Unmata's piece was alledgedly improvised, but it looked choreographed to me - I've been told that's because they use a lot of combos. However, I felt the connection between dancers was somehow lost and/or missing!
