This was the first Hafla i've been to. I didn't quite know what to expect but it really was a party atmosphere with people 'picnicking' in groups around the dance floor, sharing drinks and food. It was a lovely atmosphere, everyone was really friendly and the informal but extremely well organised presentation of the programme made it easy to relax and have some fun -although I suspect that with pre-performance nerves, some of the dancers were not quite so relaxed as the audience! The performances were varied with a mix of cabaret, tribal and fusion dancers. They were all really well received - and Liz and Izzy did a brilliant job ending with a massive round of applause for Lincoln's youngest performer and her teacher. There were several sesssions of free dance which had everyone getting up to shimmy and, if i'm anything to go by, regretting they were quite so enthusiastic with their hipwork the next morning - ouch!
