A wonderful look at the path a soul takes toward realization from a Native American (Southern Seers) tradition. The author is incredibly generous with personal information when giving examples of the challenges faced along the way.
-
Shakuhachi Meditation Music -Stan Richardson (CD)
I never thought I'd want to listen to music while meditating, until I found THIS. It's sumptuous and austere at the same time. Brilliant. I feel like I'm being teleported to Kyoto each time I press play.
-
Vasistha's Yoga --Trns Swami Venkatesananda
A magnificent text expounding on the nature on non-dual reality from a Yogic perspective. Often repetitive, it is meant to be read as a daily meditation rather that straight through.
-
Best of Thelonious Monk (CD)
Ever wanted to add a supremely cool smoky BeBop jazz album to your collection? I've bought this one THREE times because it keeps

Princess Mononoke (DVD)
Fantastic aname. Really terrific mediation on shinto-style spirit world, shamenism, and the industrial revolution. Sympathetic characters are created to represent each culture.
-
Howl's Moving Castle (Movie)
Wonderful movie, the kind of thing that kids would dig and so would you. Well, everything except for the last three minutes, which was just DUMB. But the rest of it is so brilliant I'd see it again!
-
The Corporation (DVD)
Just rented it the other night! Loved it!
-
The Drunken Master (DVD)
The movie that made Jackie Chan a star is tremendously entertaining. The choreography of the fights is poetic, like brutal ballet.
-
I (heart) Huckabees (DVD)
Fantastic movie. Folks have been telling me to see it for months. At first I was skeptical, it seemed cheesy, but it won me over completely by the end.
-
Of Water and the Spirit --Malidoma Parice Some (Book)
A fantastic tale of a young African man born into a tribal society, then kidnapped by a priest and educated in a seminary. Through it he weaves first-person accounts of tribal magic, spirits and general wierdness, as well as the brutality of colonialism.

Curse Of The Were-Rabbit starring Wallace and Gromit (Movie)
Wallace and Grommet are so undeniably funny, smart, and optomistic, how could you NOT love them? Oh, and the claymation is incredible!
-
The Men Who Stare At Goats --Jon Ronson (Book)
Wierd, shocking, and very funny. All about US Intelligence's use of psychic powers and unconventional warfare: actual stuff actually in use.
-
Kung Fu Hustle
Violence taken to a satyrical extreme, almost a parady of the Hong Kong martial arts genre. Except that the director and all the actors (some from classic 60's Kung Fu flicks) are clearly having a ball. Great fun.
-
Of Mice and Men --Steinbeck (Book)
This book is one of those classics I always meant to read. I wasn't too impressed at first, but it's very rewarding. First book to make me cry in years!
-
The Spy Who Came In From The Cold --Le Carre (Book)
Hard-hitting spy novel from the Cold War era, a truely fantastic example of the genre. Not 'pretty' prose, but so tightly written it's the prose equivilant of a Swiss watch.
-

Answers all the questions about different traditions, where these practices came from and how it all evolved.
-
Calimari Wrestler (Movie)
This oddball movie from Japan has a famous wrestler return from the dead and wrestle for the title as a giant squid. Great for a party!
-
8 1/2 (Movie)
Fellini's masterpiece, a surrealistic vacation. If nothing else watch it for the stunning cinematography and amazing faces of actors he finds.
-
The Third Man (movie)
This movie is a classic Noir, and purrs smoothly though an absolutely fabulous script in an incredible setting: bombed-out Vienna just after WWII. Acting, directing, cinematography, it's got everything.
-
Ratatouille
This movie is visually stunning, brilliantly put together, and a lot of fun. Pixar Sudio's work is so far beyond anything else the major studios are producing, you just feel sorry for the competition.
-
All About My Mother (Movie)
It's in Spanish, but that only adds to the drama of this juicy soap-opera of a character study. Lots of people crying, but it's not sad at all. It's an acting showcase with fantastic direction, great cinematography, and an outstanding script.
